Attaching corsages without pins
At weddings, galas and other festive occasions, a corsage is usually attached with a pin. A pin leaves small holes and can damage thin or expensive fabrics, such as a wedding dress, a jacket or an evening gown.
With magnets you attach a corsage without piercing the fabric. That is why couples, florists and wedding planners increasingly use corsage magnets.
How a corsage magnet works
You use two small magnets per corsage. One magnet is fixed to the back of the corsage, the other is held on the inside of the garment. The magnets attract each other through the fabric and clamp the corsage in place.
- Glue one magnet to the back of the corsage or the corsage holder with UHU Plus epoxy glue, and let the glue cure.
- Hold the second magnet on the inside of the garment, where the corsage should go.
- Place the corsage on the outside against the fabric.
How many magnets do you need?
Count on two magnets per corsage. Our corsage magnet set contains 20 disc magnets: enough for 10 corsages, for example for the couple, the parents and the witnesses.
Thin or thick fabric: which magnet?
Through fabric, the force between two magnets is much lower than the holding force on a steel plate, and the thicker the fabric, the faster the force drops. So choose by fabric, not by who wears the corsage. The corsage set comes in two versions:
- Thin fabric (dress, blouse): 20 × Ø10 x 2 mm. Strong enough, without pinching unnecessarily.
- Thick fabric (jacket): 10 × the stronger Ø10 x 3 mm (approx. 1.6 kg) for the inside and 10 × Ø10 x 2 mm for the corsage, so it stays light and does not tip forward.
For a heavy corsage, place two pairs of magnets side by side.
Glue or self-adhesive?
A self-adhesive magnet seems convenient, but the surface on a corsage is often tricky. A flower stem is round, often wrapped in florist tape and sometimes damp. An adhesive layer sticks poorly there. On top of that, the inner magnet pulls on the adhesive as soon as you take the corsage off.
- On a flower stem or florist tape: use UHU Plus. Once cured, the magnet is really fixed.
- On a flat, smooth holder: a self-adhesive disc magnet Ø10 x 1 mm also works. Press it on firmly and let it rest for a few hours before attaching the corsage.
Putting on and taking off
- Slide the corsage sideways off the fabric instead of pulling it straight off. This spares the glue joint and the fabric.
- Try it out a day in advance on the clothes that will be worn.
- The magnets can be reused after the event.
DIY weddings and decorations
Magnets are also handy for other parts of a wedding or party. Think of table numbers, name cards, menu boards, welcome signs, photo walls and temporary signage. You place and move decorations without visible fixings and without damaging the surface.
- Self-adhesive magnets: stick them on the back of cards and signs.
- Disc magnets: to build into or glue into your own decorations.
- Plastic-coated magnets: leave no scratches on metal surfaces.
The right choice depends on the weight of the decoration and the material you attach it to.
Safe use
Do not wear corsage magnets if you have a pacemaker or other medical implant: the magnets sit close to the chest. If you have a nickel allergy, do not let the inner magnet rest directly on your skin. Keep magnets out of the reach of children.
